MEET THE OWNERS

 

ERIK RICHARD MSc, CEP, CSCS

Erik founded East Coast Barbell in 2022. With nearly a decade of coaching experience under his belt, his qualifications and expertise are a testament to his commitment to the field of training and human performance.

​

As a certified exercise physiologist (CSEP-CEP) and a certified strength & conditioning specialist (NSCA-CSCS), Erik's credentials are impeccable. His experience shines brightest in athlete development, where he has worked diligently with clients and teams across all competitive and skill levels. Erik's academic achievements include the completion of his Masters of Kinesiology, with a specialization in Biomechanics, showcasing his deep passion for the intricacies of movement and mechanics.

​

Erik's contributions extend beyond the gym; he has also made his mark in the industry by presenting at national conferences and sharing his expertise as a guest on several podcasts.

​

What truly sets Erik apart is his focus on an empathetic and collaborative client-centered coaching process. He believes in understanding each client's unique goals and needs, working closely with them to create personalized and effective training plans.

​

His diverse background spans Football, Rugby, Wrestling, and Sailing, and he has recently discovered a profound love for Powerlifting. His mission is to help others unlock their true potential in the realm of strength and fitness.

​

Outside of his professional endeavors, Erik cherishes his free time spent with his wife, Lauren, and fulfills his commitment to serving in a local reserve unit within the Canadian Armed Forces. 

​

Erik is away for training with the Army until the end of summer!

LAUREN RICHARD

Meet Lauren, one of our co-owners and Membership Manager here at East Coast Barbell. Lauren is passionate about the welcoming and inclusive community she's helped build at East Coast Barbell. She's not just your average motivator; she's the ultimate cheerleader, taking genuine joy in supporting and empowering our valued members.

 

Lauren's enthusiasm is infectious, and you'll often find her on the gym floor, cheering on anyone who needs that extra boost. Beyond her role at ECB, Lauren works in early childhood education, where she plays a pivotal role in nurturing the social and emotional growth of young children. Her professional and welcoming approach makes her an invaluable part of the East Coast Barbell community.

LAURA PERRY

Laura is a dedicated and passionate fitness professional with a CanFit Pro Personal Trainer Specialist certification earned in 2017. Her journey into fitness began in 2015 when she underwent a personal transformation journey, losing over 80 lbs. Her passion for heavy lifting began in 2016 when she discovered her love for powerlifting, a sport in which she has excelled in. Notably, she proudly holds a world deadlift record with the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF).

​

 

Beyond her personal achievements, she has leveraged her expertise to positively impact the lives of many. As a seasoned coach, she has guided numerous individuals towards their fitness goals, specializing not only in powerlifting but also in areas such as police foundations, competitive paddle boarding and those desiring to be stronger in everyday life. Her coaching philosophy is dedicated to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment in the gym, helping individuals of all backgrounds and fitness levels feel comfortable and empowered on their fitness journey.

DAYMAN PERRY

Dayman Perry is a seasoned martial artist with over 40 years of experience in classical Japanese martial arts, including kenjutsu, kyudo, and jujutsu. He has been studying Japanese swordsmanship under the esteemed Douglas Tong Sensei since 1994 and serves as the Chief Instructor at Getsumei-no-Michi Dojo. Having operated several successful dojo, Dayman is passionate about sharing his extensive knowledge and fostering a deep appreciation for Japanese culture and martial arts.

Dayman's teachings emphasize an understanding of fundamental principles, balancing technical skill with mental discipline, while honouring the rich cultural heritage of these ancient practices. His dedication to these foundational tenets ensures that students not only learn the physical techniques but also delve into the philosophical and cultural dimensions that shape classical Japanese martial arts. This holistic approach enables students to develop a profound understanding of the traditions and disciplines inherent in these arts.
